1. Words and expressions used in this Tariff shall bear the meaning given thereto by the Pool Bylaws for the City of Durban.
2. The charges payable for entry to and use of the Council's pools and for the use of the ancillary facilities and services shall be as set out in the tariff of charges set out below.
3. Whenever a charge is prescribed in terms of this Tariff for entry to any pool, other than the Rachel Finlayson pool and the King's Park Pool such charges shall be payable only between the hours of 09h00 and 17h00 during the months from October to April inclusive, known as the summer season, and such entry shall be free of charge during the months from May to September inclusive, known as the winter season, except in the case of the Rachel Finlayson pool and the King's Park Pool, in respect of which payment as prescribed shall be required for entry throughout the year.
4. Tariff
(1) (a) Admission to and use of pools and their facilities
(including use of booth and hanger or locker) other than
Rachel Finlayson and King's Park Pools
(i) Per day or part thereof (Dec to Feb):

(c) Deleted.
(2) Admission to and use of the King's Park pool and its facilities excluding the use of the coin-operated locker.

(3) Any tariff applicable to children under 12 years of age in terms of subsection (1) and (2) above shall also apply to a scholar / student who is in possession of a certificate in any form issued by an educational institution stating that he attends such institution. Such certificate shall be valid only during the calendar year in which it is issued.
(4) Admission to any pool of :
(i) an old age pensioner;
(ii) a war veteran pensioner; or
(iii) a disability grantee;
(iv) a person who is 65 years of age or over and who is in possession of a valid senior citizen's identity card issued to him by the Council, or equivalent proof of age and identification;
(v) members of surf life saving clubs which operate locally on production of a membership card or other suitable proof;
(vi) uniform staff of City Police, Fire and Protection Services Departments upon authorisation by the Director: Recreation;
(vii) uniform staff of the South African Police Services upon authorisation by the Director: Recreation or his nominee;
(viii) Sports Development Instructors and Students upon authorisation by the Director: Recreation or his nominee;
shall be free.
(5) Use of pools, other than King's Park Pool, by:
(i) swimming instructors, per calendar month R165,00
(ii) professional swimming coaches, per lane, per hour or
part thereof R15,00
(iii) professional diving instructors, per lane, per hour or
part thereof R36,00
(iv) professional aquatic programmes (acquacises, aqua natal
sessions, children's fun sessions, aqua fitness, sub-aqua
etc), per hour or part thereof R60,00
(v) synchronised swimming, per hour or part thereof R25,00
(vi) students (including their parents/guardians under the
supervision of a professional swimming coach for the
duration of the training session No charge
(6) Custody of bather's valuables R3,30
(7) Hire and use of coin-operated locker R0,20
per day of part thereof
Provided that a person hiring a locker shall remove his property therefrom and return the key supplied to him not later than closing time on the day of hire and upon his failure to do so he shall be liable for a penalty of R0,40 for any day or part thereof during which his failure continues.
(8) Replacement of:

(9) (a) Hire of:

(b) Exclusive use of Rachel Finlayson pool including use
of public address system for a minimum period of three
hours:
(i) on Saturdays from 08h00 to 18h00; and
(ii) on Sundays and public holidays from 08h00 to

(c) Excluse use of deep end only of Rachel Finlayson pool
(excluding the use of locker or hanger but including use
of public address system) on any morning, afternoon or
evening, when the bath is open, but excluding Sundays and
public holidays for a minimum period of 3 hours R83,00

(d) Exclusive use of King's Park pool or diving pool
including use of public address system:
(i) on a day other than a Saturday, Sunday or
public holiday:
From 08h00 to 18h00 for a minimum period of

(f) Exclusive use of King's Park Pool or diving pool including

(g) Exclusive use of King's Park pool or diving pool for a gala
or other event for admission to which a charge is levied, the
appropriate charge laid down in (d) to (f) above or twenty
per cent of the gross receipts in respect of admission charges,
whichever is the greater.
(h) Use of King's Park pool or diving pool including electronic
timing devive; by:
(i) swimming instructors / coaches, per calender

(ii) professional swimming coaches, per lane per

(i) Training permit at King's Park pool or diving pool:

(j)(bis) Exclusive use of both the King's Park Pool and diving

(k) Exclusive use of pools other than Rachel Finlayson and King's Park

(n) Applicable Tariffs
The grant of the exclusive use of the whole or any part of a
pool shall be at the sole discretion of the Director: Recreation.
