The DAG receives strong support and assistance from the The Friends of the Durban Art Gallery, who have been in existence for more than thirty years. Over the years they have bought a wide variety of works including etchings by Goya and Manet and some magnificent Lalique vases in Art Deco and Art Nouveau styles.
While buying artworks for the collection is an important function of the Friends, it is by no means their only activity. They organise several events which range from the social to the educational.
The Friends also act as a support system for the Gallery staff and are often called in to help with exhibition openings. The Durban Art Gallery places great value on its Friends.
Membership continues to grow and it is easy to join! All you need do is phone 311 2263 and ask for a form or pop into the Gallery and pick one up.
Annual membership costs a little more than a movie ticket and offers many events during the year which are constantly entertaining and enlightening.
Friends also receive the regular Gallery newsletter, get to meet like-minded people and exchange ideas as well as receive invitations to all the exhibition openings at the Gallery.
